Nativity Parish Pastoral Council

Contact: Perry Mason (556-3964)

Nativity’s Parish Council is the coordinating and unifying structure of our parish community under the direction of the pastor. Council members operate as a parish in miniature, gathering the thoughts and ideas of the community. These thoughts are then presented to the Council for discussion until general agreement can be reached. These consensus concepts are then translated into parish goals and action plans. It is the desire of the Council to reflect the viewpoints of the people of Nativity Parish. Their performance is very dependent upon the input of parishioners on issues of importance to them. This role is one of service to the parish through leadership.

Membership on the Council is attained through selection by the parish at large and appointments made by the Pastor. There are nine elected positions and three appointed positions. Membership is for a three year term with three elected positions and one appointed position expiring in June. The Pastor is an ex officio member.

Each board member serves on one of six Committees: Faith Formation, Community Life, Finance, Liturgy, Social Justice, and Stewardship.

Meetings of the Council take place on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Conference Room. All parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend as all meetings are open.

Nativity Parish Finance Council

Contact: Greg McGinn (582-1839)

This council is a consultative, advisory resource to the Pastoral Council and to the Pastor. It monitors the financial affairs of the parish and generally guides the financial operations to ensure fiscal solvency. A major function of this council is to construct the annual parish budget and present it to the Pastoral Council for approval each spring. Recommendations concerning parish contributions, expenditures for building and grounds, and general budget preparation are channeled through this important council. In addition, every Sunday morning, members from this council organize and secure the offertory collection.

Meetings are usually held the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Office.

Liturgy Committee

Contact: Mary Beth Ferring (557-7125)

The Liturgy Committee is also one of the six major committees of the Pastoral Council. The worship life of our parish faith community is central to all that we are about as a parish. The Liturgy Committee is comprised of members of the parish and representatives of the ushers, greeters, Eucharistic ministers, music ministers, sacristans and lectors who work with the parish staff to coordinate and plan parish liturgical celebrations. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month during the school year at 7:00 p.m. in the music sacristy. Interested parishioners are encouraged to join us as we plan the environment, music and liturgies appropriate for each season.

Social Justice Committee

Contact: Len Uhal (580-8413)

The Social Justice Committee is another of the six major committees of the Pastoral Council. Its mission: “To ensure that all people, to the maximum extent possible, are able to obtain the necessities of life, in order to prosper and live with joy in dignity and peace.” To this extent it is the mission of this committee to promote and coordinate programs that will guarantee charity and justice in full measure to all God’s children. This committee has the responsibility for enabling members of the parish to respond to the social problems and needs of its members as well as those of the local and worldwide communities.” Meetings are held the last Thursday of each month.
