Church of the Nativity

In a rare display of human-squirrel bipartisanship, Rep. Paul Ryan and a local Dubuque squirrel attempted to derail our parish's BINGO night on Monday, October 1, 2012.  First, the appearance of the Republican vice-presidential candidate at Loras College caused a number of his supporters to attempt to park in our Nativity Parking lot, competing for space with our loyal bingo-players.  Once a number of Ryan supporters were dissuaded by the friendly Dan Brune and parking was preserved for the players, the squirrel went to work to silence the bingo caller.  In an act of self-sacrifice bordering on the fanatical, the squirrel, now affectionately known as "Sparky," jumped into the transformer that fed power to our Lower Kerper Hall, where BINGO happens.  The mission was only partly successful, with 1/3 of the hall darkened, but the spirits of the competitors and workers remained undimmed.  Despite the enormous obstacles, BINGO went on!!
